Acronocia (Introduction) - Project "ACR"
-Composed: March 2007
-Key Influence(s): Blues, Rap / Hip Hop (G-Funk)
-Instrumentation: Synth Strings, Electric Piano, Bass, Percussion

During late 2005 or early 2006, I began a composition known as project "Something," inspired in part by my dream of utilizing my computer programming knowledge to create a Pseudo-3D graphics engine and designing a game with it. In early-2006 I achieved my dream of developing a Pseudo-3D graphics engine, and developed a program that was known as "Acronocia 200X," from which this tracks title would be derived.

The composition at this point, however, had been long abandoned and left incomplete. It had mainly blues and jazz influences, as well as subtly hinting at influences from classical and funk music, but was poorly composed and lacked much direction or substance. As time would go on, the composition (and its prominent bassline) would stand out as a representative of the "rejects" of the All Time Low album.

Skipping forward to early 2007, I had recently developed a renewed interest in Rap and Hip Hop music, after nearly three years of avidly listening to J-Pop music. In particular, I had taken a liking to the G-Funk style prevalent in the West Coast rap scene of the early to mid-1990s. I resolved to produce a track in this style, and ultimately chose to sample the "Something" project when I finally did so.

My method of producing this track was highly inefficient, recording each individual section for each individual instrument, and piecing them together to form different combinations, which I would then piece together to form the "beat" backing the track.

The lyrics themselves were drawn from several sources. The first verse ("Screw the XG, its not working for me...") was derived from a short (and poorly recorded) "rap" called "Screw the XG (Until Album 3)" that I recorded during late 2006. Another section ("My name is MNEL, get to know my name well ... go to hell.") was derived from the lyrics to an unrecorded rap I wrote around 2002 and 2003 (at the age of 12 or 13) called "Be as Nerdy as You Can Be," with the style of Acronocia itself being a throwback to the nerdy and quasi-neurotic rap lyrics written during my early teenage years.

The lyrics make a large number of references during its three and a half minutes, such as:
•(Cracka Stole) My Lunch
•My albums reliance on MIDI music rather than music of greater quality
•Versailles (the album project that was to follow Firebomb)
•My background ("I hail from the West Coast, live in the South")
•My interests and musical background/interests
•My concern about the state of contemporary Hip Hop
•The disparity between my time spent in school and spent composing
•My brothers criticism of my music
•My poor production quality with regard to rap tracks ("Turn it too high and you may not hear my next beat ever")
•My overcoming of the personal slump that was the "Dark Ages"
•A lively and eventful summer day with friends
•Emphasis on the shortness of life and the need to enjoy it

Upon completing this track, I decided that the quality of both the beat and the vocals were not up to my standards, and (like CARAMEL) resolved to re-record the track. As with CARAMEL, this re-recording would not happen, and Firebomb would be delayed for years as a result. In 2009, I began a halfhearted attempt to remix the track using improved techniques, but the project was never completed. The album was ultimately declared "complete" after speedily re-mastering the original recording.

This would not be my last work to be influenced by G-Funk, however. During mid-2007, in response to what I considered to be some highly unimpressive rap tracks produced by a couple classmates under the alias of "Balla G & MC Milkman," I began production of a diss track known as A Quick Word. Though it didnt sample any particular compositions or tracks, it was far superior in quality to Acronocia, with regard to both the beat and its lyricism. I never found time, however, to record the lyrics, and the project was ultimately scrapped.
