Jane Duncan from Right2Know (www.r2k.org.za) answers MPs questions at the Parliamentary Indaba on Media Transformation on 22 September 2011.
She argues that it acceptable for democratic states to limit concentration of media ownership to create an enabling environment for a diversity of voices in a democracy. She calls for a comprehensive review of the MDDA's impact on media diversity over the past 16 years arguing that subsidization (small MDDA grants) of media projects without changing the structure of the industry will not be sufficient to to assess the need for media diversity.
