NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE HERE: http://links.emi.com/homagetocallas .... Angela Gheorghiu, the defining diva of the 21st century, releases 'Homage to Maria Callas'.

An Homage to Maria Callas featuring stunning new recordings of favourite arias from La Bohème, La Traviata, La Wally, and many more...

'Homage to Maria Callas' is a collection of beloved French and Italian operatic masterpieces performed by Angela Gheorghiu, the defining diva of this century. The programme is inspired by the career and recordings of Maria Callas, the greatest diva of the last century. The arias are shared favourites of both Callas and Gheorghiu, and Angela's new recording demonstrates once again her extraordinary vocal and emotional range.

Angela Gheorghiu said recently, "Callas was original in everything she did; she was a phenomenon. In every performance she gave her all. She was the most wonderful painter and you can always hear exactly the right colour in her voice. Just hearing her sound, you understand all the power or fragility of her emotions. That's a rare talent and a great gift." Gheorghiu continued, "EMI was her record label and it's mine too. It feels like a family".

Recorded at London's iconic Abbey Road Studios in London and in New York, the repertoire of Gheorghiu's first studio recital in six years (during which time she recorded several complete operas, including a multi-award-winning Madama Butterfly), shows her versatility in lyric, spinto and mezzo roles, with each of which she feels a strong emotional connection.

  • The big classic labels have got bizarre marketing ideas sometimes but this is really an unintentionally embarrassing one. Why the need to dress up a first class soprano like Gheorghiu as the legend Callas? She looks like a clown in a karaoke-show. It´s more interesting to watch an artist with a new repertory instead of dressing her like a bad copy and let her singing the same arias once again of different recitals from earlier times. It´s really shame.

  • @mregecko Do you ever sang anything? Only a person who never sang doesn't know that the gestures of the arms help tuning and the music flowing.

Only those who are deaf or malicious does not recognize the exceptional singer Angela is. Callas is dead, I was never particularly fan of her voice but in her time she as the best as now, in my opinion, the best is Angela.

  • Throw this she closed the mouth shut to many evil people here in NYC! Thanks to ROH for asking Abbey Road Studios to fetch this CD-DVD. That's why Angela do whatever the British people at ROH want it because they recognize in her as the best sopranos nowadays. BRAVO!

  • Is this an SNL sketch? Like... seriously, this has to be a joke? It's pretty much a parody of what people think an opera singer should look like / act / do.

Maria Callas would have laughed at these arm gestures, getups, wistful shots from a distance with mirrors and fogged lenses...

None of this actually serves to further any art or interpretation of music. It's frill and frippery.

She needs to listen to the Callas masterclasses to get an idea of how she fealt re: such cheap tricks on stage.
