Maynard and Jon in my opinion are the only people who come close in my opinion

I heard a story from my trumpet teacher back in college, that while at Interlochen, one summer in his youth, Cat showed up to give a concert. According to him, there was a fine spray of condensation coming from Cat's horn while he was playing! And I can believe that shit, seeing as he would need the ultimate embouchure grip and breath propulsion to hit these ridiculous notes. So however Cat managed to pull off his supersonic feats...RESPECT.

Years ago, when I would go see the Ellington Band, I would always sit as close to Cat Anderson as I could. It was always great.

Talk about a talented band and using the full capabilities of it, quite impressive.

WTF?! That last "A" just comes out of nowhere. I've never heard anything that far above a double high C sound so clean and precise as that. Hell, I don't hit the A an octave below that with anywhere near that precision.
Say what you will about Cat's sound, but damn if anyone on the planet can find the pitch center of a staccato high note like that.

My goodness. You never know how he's going to end it...that cat.

cat nails that triple "A", then drops his horn as to say "take that, ladies & gentlemen!". i guess you have to be a showman if you're gonna play notes like that!

Almost jaw dropping lol?

Rockin'! One of the great Duke jams and wish th' hell I could've seen it live. Interesting to hear the boys play the same solos on this date and the Great Paris Concert (one of the top five greatest jazz recordings of all time). Some might dis this practice as "not jazz," but I would say these are miniature works of art and perfect set pieces. Crazy man K.
Actually, I'm pretty sure that this is from the Goodyear TV concert in 1962.
The soloists are:
1 Harold "Shorty" Baker (tp)
2 Paul Gonsalves (tenor sax)
3 Lawrence Brown (tb)
4 Russel Procope (alto sax)
5 Bill Berry (tp)
6 Ray Nance (tp with mute)
7 Eddie Mullens (tp)
8 Cat Anderson (tp)
