I found a woman in an elevator with a bridesmaid dress, and we needed stories for the blizzard which hadnt arrived yet. So I asked if she was going to be in a wedding- she said yes, and that literally 20% of the guests were expected to make it. All planes were being diverted, all trains were going to be shut down, all the highways would soon be impassable and the ones who came just one day early were the only ones who would be able to attend. So I asked if we could tag along. At first the station didnt want a "soft" news story, but we persisted and got our wish. Then, in a stroke of luck, they decided to put up a webcam and broadcast it over "youstream." I asked if we could use that video, live, to show the wedding. We teased the story using the live web video, and their wedding, which was supposed to get maybe 100 watchers at most, had tens of thousands of viewers all around the country- which then brought viewers to our Fox5 WTTG website as well.
Many folks in the newsroom commented that it was the "best story of the blizzrard" because they were tired of seeing snow, snow, snow, snow...
