Cielito Lindo (Bourdon) - Dusolina Giannini (soprano), Electrola ca 1929 (German pressing)

THIS CLIP IS DEDICATED WITH MY WARM MEMORY TO MY MEXICAN FRIENDS: SAMUEL, LORELLE AND JORDI !!!
-----------------------------------------------------

NOTE: Dusolina GIANNINI was American-Italian soprano (1902 1986) born in Philadelphia to Italian parents. She studied with her father, Ferruccio Giannini, who was a tenor and ran his own opera company. Her mother Antonietta Briglia-Giannini was an excellent violinist. At the age of thirteen Dusolina sang Azucena in her father's company. Later she continued her studies with a world famous Polish soprano, Marcella Sembrich (Marcelina Sembrich - Kochańska). And it was in New York where there was the scene of her first triumph. She substituted for the indisposed Anna Case at a concert in Carnegie Hall. In 1924 she started recording for the Victor company. The same year she was very successful in London. In 1925 she made her debut as Aida at the Hamburg State Opera. She appeared there until 1930. In 1928 she sang a number of highly successful performances at Covent Garden. She was invited to sing Aida in a complete opera recording (her partners were Pertile, Minghini-Cattaneo and Inghilleri under Sabajno). This recording enjoyed almost legendary fame and familiarized her name throughout the world. She never actually sang at La Scala. In 1934/35 she appeared as Donna Anna at the Salzburg Festival. Guest appearances took her to Monte Carlo, Zurich, Oslo, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Mexico City. In 1936 she made her Met debut as Aida and remained a member of the Met ensemble until 1941. She continued to sing in Europe. After 1962 she was director of the Opera Studio in Zurich.

  • czyli z tego wzieli melodie do ''teraz jest wojna''

  • Oczywiście, że z tego! A ja jeszcze pamiętam z lat pięćdziesiątych inne słowa: "Aaa, jaaa, jaaa, jaaaj! Spędzajcie z gór swe stada/ mój ojciec tam kowbojem był/ miał syna koniokrada..." Dalej niestety nie powtórzę. I nie wiem też, kto to śpiewał.

  • Beautiful voice. A nice change from the usual mariachi-style versions. Great bright pictures of Mexico and of Mexicanos.

  • Yes D., this version is a true artwork. Dusolina - perhaps because of the fact, she never sung in La Scala - is somewhat forgotten in Europe nowadays. But she was such wonderful singer! One day I will upload her with Marcel Wittrisch in a love-duett from "Madama Butterfly". Perfetto!

  • Hi Grzegorz - this is a super upload. Her voice is smooth like honey - the artwork - exquisite! My mother used to sign it to me. Thanks for the memories!!!

  • Hi Lana, I like your metaphores! I remember you compared Rosetta Ferlito's voice to a peach liqueur. Here we have some honey in Dusolina's voice:-)) Yes, it's really so!

  • I love music from the 1920s era. But most of the music i find is all either american or english bands. I'd love to get some old music from other countries, such as Mexico.

  • I've never listened to this version, I like her voice a lot! Mexico has a lot of traditional beautiful songs, I'm proud of my culture and my native country. Viva México y su cultura! :)
