Hartebeests in Murchison Falls National Park

The second weekend in July found our group on a safari in Murchison Falls National Park; it was an unbelievable experience! Here we stopped to observe a pair of hartebeests (a type of antelope) involved in some sort of power struggle.

Some interesting facts about the park:

-At almost 1,500 sq. mi. it is the largest national park in Uganda.

-It was named for Sir Roderick Impey Murchison, who became the director of the Royal Geographical Society in 1855.

-It contains two spectacular waterfalls: Karuma Falls and Murchison Falls

-All of the "Big Five" African animals—lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos—are native to the park. All but the rhino can be found there today.

-The Victoria Nile runs east-to-west through the park.
