This is really beautiful! I am like you; I have taught myself some theory and I dissect my favorite songs. I compose to at this point, but not as nice as you :) I pray I will be there soon :)

That is a nice composition. I recently composed all of the music for an Xbox Live game called Glimpse of Evil. I used an organ to sustain some of my compositions, but after hearing yours, I kind of wish I would have used some sort of synth pad for a few of the pieces instead. You created a nice melody with a couple of interesting chord progressions that stuck in my head without becoming annoying. Keep up the good work, and good luck!

I also compose some things on MIDI. Even though I hate the sound of MIDI, I compose for the whole orchestra, and even some people do it, it'd be a bitch to write it on paper. I have Guitar Pro 5. What are the advantages of Sibelius over Guitar Pro?
That chord at 1:32, and right before the end is really cool- it caught me off gaurd, but in a good way. Cool piece!

Thanks. One thing I do try to do in my music is have one or two 'cool' chord progressions. Since I write video game music, mostly, it helps keep the player(or listener) looking forward to that moment in the song.

how'd u go about writing this? fiddled on a piano or instrument? heard something in ur head? just put random notes? wrote down chords and just put tones in and felt around until something felt right? i'm curious since i'm striving to become a composer

Combination of luck and ideas. Knowing theory really helps, but isn't always necessary. My advice to you is to do exactly as I did. Learn some basic theory and take some of your favorite songs and analyze them/break them down. Then try to emulate that when you write.

i suggest making another, but add a little more build up, maybe like growth, growth, growth, then fall down slowly or abruptly. ya know? or change keys, or change themes a little

I did have a key change and a variation at some point, but I decided to keep it simple for looping purposes(this song was originally intended to be in a game, but said game was scrapped).
