Maka a mark of that weird underwater effect. Wikipedia sez that this was the first british single to use that "flanging" effect. But what the hell is "Itchycoo"? WP reveals dat too.

  • I bet the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays got their inspirairation in Itchychoo Park

  • This song is pure 1960's and I was 14 when the song came out. It embodies the drug scene and attitude of that era. I really like the beginning of the song- it's just electric! Paula

  • The Itchycoo Park in the song is actually University Parks in Oxford. The Small Faces were sent to stay in a hotel in Oxford to get them away from the London scene and supposedly concentrate on writing more songs. They got very stoned and wandered around the park on one particular day, and that's where the song came from. (From a 'Story Behind The Song' article in Mojo, and the accompanying book.)

  • The effect is flanging, which at that time was created by lightly braking the tape reel with one's hand, gently slowing and speeding the tape speed. The Beatles' engineers first created it. It is used all the time, now digitally and electronically on many guitar tracks.

  • Steve looks amazing in this clip! One of my all time fave bands!

  • @get2ubed He fell asleep in bed with a cigarette in his home. A sad end for a great talent.

  • @get2ubed house fire.

  • @get2ubed house fire.

  • He was so incredibly talented and so damn easy to look at!!! Hot and talented...real talen?. Don't find that combo too often! ;)

  • That "Weird" under water sound as you put it was called The Mellotron which was a keyboard and predosessor to Kieth Emerson's (The Nice and ELP) MOOG. It was inventented in the 60's and first used by Paul McCartney! Marriott or rather Ian McLagen (Keys) with the Small Faces then Incorporated it with the Faces!!!
