Keith & Warren - 'Five O'Clock World'

Wow... a highlight of the evening for me, and Keith too, I expect... especially considering that spectacularly sustained final note...

Keith uses drop-D tuning for this one.

I'd forgotten how much I love this song, till someone requested it tonight. I've always found it quite confusing to accompany this one, but Keith relayed a very helpful big clue just before we dropped in: "Lots of Ds and Am7s...". I translated these chords to D and C (rootless Am7) and found a rhythmic pattern that seemed to work... and now I can't wait to play it again.
This was a Billboard Top Ten hit for the The Vogues in 1965, and later for Hal Ketchum. The original Vogues version was also famously used as the theme song for The Drew Carey Show. Keith's version is modeled on Ketchum's cover.
