ACE - Animal Care in Egypt
Registered Charity UK 1082679
Egypt Society #2 Luxor
www.ace-egypt.org.uk

ACE was opened in July 2000 by two animal lovers (Julie Wartenberg and Kim Taylor) who had initially come to Egypt on holiday. They were so distressed by the condition of the horses and donkeys they saw around Luxor, they decided to do something to help.

ACE started as a simple idea to give these animals a break from their long working day in the hot sun, somewhere they could have their tack removed, a wash and a drink. The dirt and sweat under the tack was rubbing, causing sores and eventually open wounds. Now many of these sores are being prevented by teaching the owners to regularly wash their animals.

ACE has now evolved into a fully functioning veterinary hospital with up to 200 animals visiting a day (most requiring some sort of medical attention), ranging from camels, horses and donkeys to cats, dogs and even tortoises.

ACE knows that most visitors rarely see the thousands of working animals serving the needs of the tourist industry. They are still used as the main transport for most things, from the bricks, steel and cement used in the building to the huge amount of food and drink consumed in Luxor every day. These animals are almost overloaded and overworked.

ACE is trying to improve the lives of these animals not only by treatment but also by education and prevention. The service we provide is free to the poor owners who rely so heavily on their animals to feed, clothe and house their families.

ACE is completely funded by voluntary donation and need your help to continue this vital work.

  • What an amazing and extrodinary person.....I have so much respect for what you do....I was very upset when I went to Egypt and Morocco and saw these animals been worked and kept in such terrible conditions inhumane conditions..!!!! Continue ur amazing work....if only these animals could be saved and left to live the rest of their lifes in peace.

  • I so have great respect for the work you are doing. I just met a lovely young lady ( she is a vet.) who is coming your way in April from Holland, to assist with the horrendous problem and ill treatment of the animals. It makes me cry when I see these video's.

Education is sooooo important. When people are poor and ignorant, they lose sight of what is also very important. Respect for other people and also for the animals.

  • I dont get it. Those animals are they instrument for working. You never see a doctor or a carpenter neglecting their tools of work, nobody does that. And these people just keeping beating the animals who works to put food in their tables.

Keep your good work showing people to treat rigth their animals.

  • You're doing an amazing work!

  • this abuse HAVE to stop now.

  • 5:50 I wanted to smack that horse owner so hard and maybe break HIS leg too , seriously that made me so angry and sad.

  • FUCKING IGNORANT EGIPCIANS...

  • Oh God, how well do I know all that, having lived in Luxor for some time. As a horse and animal lover and horse rider it's incredibly hard to watch this stuff day by day. Sadly, nothing is made up in this documentary, it shows the pure truth. And as much as I still love my Egypt, this is a side I always deeply hated! This woman and her partners did such a marvellous job over the last couple of years and have improved the life of animals so much! Bless you and go on!

  • Great work, great organization, help most needed in Luxor - Edfu.
