  • I know nothing about fords, but love that rev of a sbf. I have built Olds, chevy and mopars, but I have been given 2 1967 289 small blocks that I have to go pick up.

My question is can that block be used for a stroker and what kind of cylinder clearance issues would I face? I really want to build a stroker small block ford.

I would love any insigt as to sites and other tips. Thanks.

  • yes, a 289 can be stroked to 347. my kit is from Eagle. if i were to do it over again, i'd buy a stroker kit made in the USA... from DSS? i'm not a mechanic, but the only difference between a 289 and 302 is push rod clearance, i believe. check out the VMF forums and post your questions there or do a search. you'll get your answers.

  • sounds strong

  • thanks. i'm happy with the build.

  • cylinder walls? fuck em lol. sounds good!

  • @hivewax yes and no. pushrods are the same (deck height is the same, 289 and 302 blocks are identical). The difference is the rod length.. cant remember but I believe the crank is still standard 3" stroke, where as a 331 cranks have a 3.25" stroke, and 347's have a 3.4" stroke, rods for 331s and 347s are the same though (5.4")
