In response to TouchBionics "get a grip on functionality" demo video http://www.touchbionics.com/professionals.php?pageid=44&section=5

I like to be able to smoothly and without much technological overhead work through technical situations.

As TouchBionics advertise the possibility to actually lift a peach using their iLimb I found it relevant to offer a 1:1 comparison to peach / fruit lifting functionality.

I am using an Otto Bock System hand (voluntary opening) on a cable controlled arm.

  • I use the hook as mechanical tool. But it is no hand shape substitute.

I use hook 1 ("clean") for driving, office and clean lab stuff, typing, paperwork, eating, garden, etc.

I use hook 2 for contaminated item handling at work, then it's disinfected.

For meeting people or hanging out, I typically wear the hand or maybe no arm.

It is like whether to wear a hat inside. Sometimes you can, sometimes you may not want to and sometimes it does not matter. There are no clear answers.

  • i want one. but im a poor amarican 21 year old. not a war vet. dont think ill ever have the money. the hook that i got for free is total garbage and makes me feel even more disabled.

  • Do you use the hand much? I think the hook is a better tool.
