Guide dogs can make life easier for the visually impaired - leading them through busy streets and potentially dangerous situations. But someone must teach these amazing animals before they can serve an owner. One young Tennessee 4-Her is a guide dog trainer.

  • And yes they do call them Goldadores. :) Dad is golden retreiver and mom is lab.

  • She is not a trainer.. She is a Puppy Raiser for Southeastern Guide Dogs as am I. We are not allowed to let them play with balls. Think about it.. if you were a blind person handling a dog and someone across the street or a kid is playing with a ball that dog will want to go after the ball.. Not a good situation. As for the treats, the reward it praise but the dogs are given treats just for being good dogs through the day. Hope that helped clarify. I've raised 5 dogs for this organization.

  • I am a trainer as well, but in my country we use treats all the time. It's just not good for the puppy to accept treats from other people, but other than that, it's good to match the reward when teaching a dog to whatever it's motivated by. And with some dogs, treats are excellent. I am training a German Shepherd to become guide dog and her favorite reward is to fetch a ball. But when training on the street, it is obviously not possible, so I use love, praise and treats.

  • that dog is so adorable, it's too bad his human is going to be blind

  • lmao goldadore :D
