Since around 07.09.01 an area in central Ohio north of Columbus has been inundated with monarch butterflies. If you walk under trees, flocks of monarchs fly away. Sometimes 5-15 can be seen hanging from one branch.

It was a good year for caterpillars also. Many monarch caterpillars (and many fuzzy, wolley caterpillars) could be seen at once munching on milkweed and butterfly weed. By September much of the milkweed was stripped of leaves, so that just stalks remained.

However, by the first of September, no caterpillars were visible. The monarchs apparently stopped here for a while during their migration south to Mexico.

  • I really appreciated the additional information about the monarchs in your area and where the video footage was taken. All the best.

  • There were two Caterpillars sitting on a leaf . . . when a Butterfly flew past . . . and they said, "You'll never get US up in one of those things "
