Risk game strategies. In this video I concentrate on opening strategies and I use trying to secure South America as an example.
http://www.historygamer.com/2011/01/25/risk-game-strategy-part-1-of-2/

Try to gain a continent with diplomacy if you can. At the start of the game you are all very vulnerable, you do not have enough armies to be sure of a gain (only probably sure). I explain Risk dice rolls in the next video.

I use an example starting layout and cover my opening negotiation with the player that could cause me the most trouble.

In the opening phase of Risk, you want to try to gain at least one peacy treaty with another player. An Alliance is also good, you don't want to be the last player left without a friend in the game. That is only going to get you into potential trouble (by being a target of the players who are in an alliance).

You want to avoid fighting at the start of the game, becuase you have so few armies. You just want a card.

Before I go over the dice roll probabilities I contrast this with gambling activites to give you some perspective on taking a "Risk" in the game of Risk.

  • I love the politics side, if you've ever tried playing teams risk like reds and greens blues and yellows etc, its very funny to sow the seeds of doubt and get one of the team to convert to yours, and take over Asia and Europe in one sweep at the start.

  • @jb10626 never played a team version of risk - sounds interesting.

  • I played my first game last night since I was about 12. I controlled Africa early and was stupid and went for Asia. I got it, but it weakened my army and one of the guys playing had a lot stacked on brazil and moved in and took africa. They allied with Europe and took me out. Was surprised how much strategy this game takes...

  • @Michigan1985 strategy and politics, how to get other people to do want you want is a real art form.

  • Very well made and thought through, sir!

  • @medicaster Thanks! I think the dice roll section alone should be useful to people.
