The Hornet drives same 20-gr. bullet 600 fps faster. It's a centerfire, so uses higher pressures. Cost about $1 a shot. 17WSM cost about 33 cents a shot.

Hi again Ron can you tell me do you know what gun makers are testing guns to shoot this super magnum or is Winchester making the guns to shoot it...I've heard savage is testing a gun but iam not sure if this is true I wouldn't have thought so as they have just launched guns for the .17 hornet centrefire...thanks

Savage B-Mag rifle still not quite ready. Supposed to be out this month though.

Shouldn't really be comparing this to the 17 Hornet instead of the 22 Hornet?? That would be a more accurate comparison.

Not really because the Hornet is a centerfire, thus more expensive. However, Hornet will push same 20 gr. bullet 600 fps faster, so it certainly outperforms the 17 WSM, but at 3-times more cost.

Since the 17Hornet was designed to have the same ballistics as the 223Rem, comparing the 17WSM to the 17Hornet would be like comparing a 22WMR to a 22Hornet, which isn't a very fair comparison. Also, I believe he was trying to make the point that this smaller, lighter, quieter rimfire cartridge has better external ballistics than the 22Hornet at a third of the cost. And you don't have to chase your brass all day out on the gopher patch :D

Thanks for the informative video. Winchester's videos really don't give you anything other then it is a more powerful round over the .17HMR. I own the .17 HMR and am now considering this new .17WSM. To me it seems more of a practical cartridge not that the HMR isn't practical. Now let's wait and see if Winchester steps it up again and introduces a new .22 WSM , wouldn't surprise me!

if this turns out to be as good as they say it is and its as accurate as the .17hmr and if the price of ammo and gun are right then this could be the one to take the crown of the .17hmr as king of the rimfires...it looks good to me....atb
