"Stella's Ballad of the Growing Camera" presents Stella Feldschuh's spontaneous ballad-like poem created in a spirited performance on July 26th, 2009 in Barrytown, New York, during a family outing by the Hudson River. Stella's remarkable creation becomes more and more traditional in basic rhythm as she goes along for ten uninterrupted minutes, and caused some of us to fantasize that she might be a reincarnation of the great Scottish-American poet Helen Adam! Not only the tone and rhythm, but a certain look in the eyes of one transported by what is inside the emerging recital.
Recorded and edited by George Quasha. Also present for the occasion were Stella's parents, Jonathan & Carla Feldschuh; Jasper Feldschuh; Susan Quasha; Sheva Fruitman; and Alana Siegel, Stella's collaborator in an extension of this performance, also recorded and the subject of a separate video.
