I think Jazz Aces was the first video I uploaded on youtube. Well, more than a year later, and it's still one solid effect, especially in a relaxed kind of setting.

Recently, thanks to a fellow youtuber, I became aware of an alternative handling that includes a nice kicker finale, so I decided to reshoot a video, this time with patter, and including the new ending. Hope you guys like it.

I have a semi-prepared patter to go with this effect, meaning that I do try to include the "sonic boom" bit and the "teleportation device" bit, but in actual performance I try to keep it more like a real conversation with the audience: I try to keep a flow going, but allow for digressions and real interactions. What I like about this handling is that it allows me to pull it all together tight at the end with a finale where I'm in complete control and that packs a big punch.

Credits go to Jack Carpenter for the handling: I believe the effect is called "O'Henry plays Jazz" from Jack Carpenter's Labyrynth special.

Enjoy!

  • Hi! Your magics are so simple and clean and beautiful! I love them much!

And I want to ask you a question or a favor?

Do you mind if I use this handling of jazz aces? (not the same story as you, just the end and handling! I really liked the ending though)

  • @rikard92 Well, the trick is not mine, but Jack Carpenter, so you should ask him...

  • what is a DL

  • Dancing Leprechaun

  • nicely done. :D alltho this trick is done by confusing you when talking and alot of dubble lifts ;P nothing special

  • Thank you for the compliment. However, there is nothing confusing about this trick, the plot is as straightforward as it gets: aces magically assemble to the leader pile, one by one. I could do this completely silently and it would work just as well.

Also, there isn't a single DL in the entire routine.

  • @unmungo lol, ya no doubles. this is really really good. im using your video to try and perfect my own performance of this trick

  • @unmungo i think there has to be at least one DL

  • Very nice handling of Jazz Aces. Even though simple, this is still one of my all time favorite card effects, cuz ONLY 8 cards are used. I also really love Twisting the Aces by Mr. Vernon. You can actually perform these two Masterpieces back to back. I do like your little 'twist' at the end of J.A.'s. A simple, but cool added touch.
