On the Friday before Labor Day, as people were heading home or on a getaway for the last Summer weekend of the year, the main information board for the Long Island Rail Road was not operating as it went offline. What I found interesting was the fact each of the boards from left to right each showed an IP address as well as a three digit VDC number. In case you're unable to see them, here are the codes as shown starting from the left and going to the right: 192.168.12.202 VDC005 192.168.12.203 VDC002 192.168.12.204 VDC002 192.168.12.205 VDC002 192.168.12.206 VDC002
Finally, underneath each number was a message saying:
-OFFLINE-[PR]
