@bosum26 thanks for the comment - I'm in the states and never heard of them until a couple of years ago. What I wouldn't give to go back about 10 years and follow their career. I couldn't believe they were together again - let's hope they do more of this.
@ojibmom1 You don't know Kashtin? These guys traveled the world with their music. Brought to you by Florent Vollant & Claude Mckenzie, both have went in diffrent directions but made an appearance together for the Innu Nikamu 2010 Celebration. They are not together anymore. They still sing as if they never split-up on these clips. Hope u enjoy them as much as we did!
@nikamuna09 Wow! you've really done your research. Thanks for the site info. I'm sure that you'll get to use your Innu soon and often. I' really like to live in Canada. I've always been near by, but might get there yet,eh? Sounds like you already know quite a bit of Innu. Wonder what it is about this language that makes it so much fun to learn.
@ojibmom1 - yes a lot of animal names are the same or really close. He says miigwetch (I think it's almost a generic First Nations thank you here in Canada) but in Innu it's actually "tshinashkumitin" (or tshinashkumitinau if plural), and he says that too. It was their songs that got me started learning Innu too :-) I'd started on Ojibwe before that but didn't get much beyond wabush & makwa ;-) FYI, there's a new learning site at jeux[dot]tshakapesh[dot]ca - vocab games & pronunciation. Iame!
@nikamuna09 You guessed Ojibwe correctly & I'm noticing a lot of similar words as well, mostly animal names, and I could swear Florent says miigwitch at the end of something, which is thanks in ojibwe. But we are all algonquin from the area where their reserve is. I actually know more innu at this point than ojibwe because of the songs. I got a lot of translations off the internet. too. Jaden Rhodes has the words to Kastin on his site. He signs really slow too so you can understand a lot.
@ojibmom1 - Kuei kuei! I'm learning Innu-aimun, so I can read, write & understand a little bit - it's a real bonus when the lyrics are included, like on Eku Mamu. I got to practise a bit on my last trip. I'm guessing from your username you may be Ojibwe? Innu-aimun is closely related to Cree & Ojibwe and a lot of words are very similar. I'm trying to figure out a way to spend a year in the Malio area so I can really practise :-) Not a lot of Innu speakers to chat with here in southern Ontario.
@nikamuna09 Do you understand Innu? There'e a website where you can learn it, but who has the time? I've talked with some of Florent's people and they sent me a translation of his new album, but would'nt it be great to have a translation of all their works for us poor English speaking only people! I'm happy they both have an english only song on there new albums - maybe they'll get stateside one day. They really need to be heard around the world.
@ojibmom1 - Yes, I'm so lucky I can't believe it! I don't know them personally but I saw them both in individual shows last December in Maliotenam (there's video on my channel, just keep scrolling down), but it was so great to see them together. They looked VERY happy to be back together too, so maybe there'll be a Kashtin tour in future :-) (They both look well - I think all Claude's fans worry about him a little ;-) (I don't live in Maliotenam, I'm just an incredibly lucky fan of Innu music)
just loved this version of the song, wish they were astill playing together, would love to see them

@ojibmom1 Is there a way to carry on this conversation without the entire world looking over my shoulder and we're taking up your comment space too.
