Harvard law professor Jonathan Zittrain uses the Star Wars kid viral video to discuss issues of online privacy. While mainstream media never thought to protect the minor's identity, Wikipedians argued to delete his surname out of courtesy, not because they feared being sued.

  • George Lucas should hire Star Wars Kid as a consultant on future movies...just saying :P

Jonathan raises a number of great points, and seems to be highly aware that although technology now allows for unguarded passage of information, human nature's development of morality and ethics have been the sliver of hope necessary to keep some semblance of privacy alive. The internet is still very new and people are still trying to find balance with this new-found freedom.

  • Well when you completely ignore reality, sure it's easy to see any harm done. Just do some googling, the dude has basically been harassed in every school he's been at.

  • The problem with to much legal restrictions is that it leads to a very suppressed and controlled media.

Compromises have to haven on many layers. And but limiting the internet, we're just gauging out our own eyes.

One would think courtesy and common sense was better. :)
