We are Perry and Terry Parker. We have been raising grass fed lambs for the past 13 years here on our 80-acre farm in Moses Lake, Washington. We have a flock of about 200 Suffolk/Hamp/Columbia cross ewes. We use no hormones, no artificial ingredients and no steroids in the production of our lambs. They are finished on a 100% grass diet. We take pride in the way we raise our lambs. We believe that livestock are the healthiest when produced in their own natural, grass grazing, foraging habitat. We also raise our own alfalfa hay. We strive to be self-sufficient.
Our lambs are born in January, February and March and April. The only commercial feed they are fed is during their first 6-8 weeks of age. They receive for a short period of time a medicated (but not harmfull to anyone) pelleted ration to prevent coccidiosis, which is critical for their proper growth and development. It is fortified with vitamins and minerals to promote good health at a very early age. When the lambs are about 2 months old, they are turned out with their moms onto a 40 acre grass/clover pasture where they are fattened. The ewes get fat, too !!! They also have trace mineral salt available and lots of clear, fresh water at all times. At approximately 140 pounds, when they are approximately 8 months old, the lambs are processed by a local meat packer under the watchful eye of a USDA Meat Inspector. The meat is vacuum sealed and quick-frozen to preserve freshness. We sell it right off our farm. We also sell live lambs for the do-it-yourselfer.
We have only heard positive feedback from our customers: "The best lamb I've ever had." "I lived in Australia for 20 years and never had lamb this good." "So tender and good." "It doesn't have that gamey, tough taste like store bought lamb I've had -- it's really good !!" "I never knew lamb could be this good." Our lambs are truly lambs when they are processed ... they are not over 10 months old .. and that makes a tremendous difference in quality, tenderness and taste.
We believe our animals produce and grow well because they are grown and live with the least amount of stress on them while on the diet that is the most natural and suitable for them. They are happy and healthy living the way nature intended them to -- out grazing on belly-deep green grass/clover pastures. It is this philosophy that keeps our sheep happy and stress free. It's also the reason they grow so fast ... the ewes milk well on grass giving the lambs their best possible nutrition. It's really pretty simple ... put them in their own healthy habitat and they'll thrive.
We welcome farm tours any time of year. We are usually always home tending animals, fences, or whatever. We also raise registered Boer Goats and have goat meat available as well. Occaissionally we are at a goat show somewhere in the Northwest. Give us a call .. we'd love to have you stop by for a visit.
