I remember this when I first say it on television in 1996. At first I was worried that The Great Bergonzi was about to make a fool of himself at 72 singing this taxing aria. As I was listening, I feared his voice would crumble. I held my breath until the very end, then gave thanks to God that there were still operatic giants walking the land. Young tenors take note: May God grant you the gift and longevity of the peerless, the great Carlo Bergonzi! BRAVO!

I was at Carnigie Hall, when at 76 he did his first performance of otello. There where moments when he sounded amazing and others where he didn't. I was just so damn happy to be there to see one the greatest tenors of all time. He did not finish, but at least I was able to hear him on stage and will always be thankful for that.
