PACIFIC OCEAN (March 13, 2011) U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to the Black Knights of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 4 and Japanese relief workers load supplies aboard an SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter to support earthquake and tsunami relief efforts near Sendai, Japan. The helicopter then flies along the coast before landing at Takihama, Japan where U.S. and Japanese forces work together to unload the helicopters. HS-4 is embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) off the coast of Japan rendering humanitarian assistance following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami as part of Operation Tomodachi. • @Nautilus1972 66 years ago was another lifetime. Opinions in both countries are very high toward the other, according to the Japanese embassy in DC over 80% of the populations feel close or very close to the other.

  • Thank you, USA, very much.

  • I am Japanese and can never thank the US enough. Back in days, the US and Japan fought in the devastating war, but the US protected post-war Japan (from the Soviet Union proposing the divided occupation). Practically, national security of today's Japan is assured by the US soldiers stationed in Japan, who are THE patriots and know what it TRULY means to love their motherland. Presence of the US in this world is a God-given gift for Japan.

  • @whyyoumadbrah If anything, the fact that Japan assisted after Hurricane Katrina, and that we assisted after the 2011 earthquake proves that our pasts are overshadowed by the friendship and cooperation of the present and future.

  • @Nautilus1972

WW2 has nothing to do with it. Japan is one of America's strongest, if not THE strongest ally in the Pacific. Just as Germany today is also one of our key allies in Europe.

The US, Japan and nearly every other nation had a totally different mind-set 60 years ago than they do today.

  • @whyyoumadbrah I guess that's why you dropped atomic bombs on them 66 years ago ...
