The next in a weekly series of 10 minute topics teaching about various topics within Judaism. This week's topic is: Jewish Marriage Practices.
The concept of marriage in Judaism is that of an ideal state of personal existence. A man without a wife or a woman without a husband is considered incomplete.
According to halachah, marriage consists of two separate acts, called erusin (also known as kiddushin) and nissuin. Traditionally, these two acts were separate and distinct but today, in most communities, they generally occur on the same day. The erusin is the betrothal ceremony and the nissuin is the actual marriage ceremony.
