Mattonna, it wasn't that NOBODY got to see the lighting of the sign (pardon the figure of speech), but that a very small percentage of the intended audience got to see much of the show. In the build up to the midnight countdown, short clips of the show were shown on network television. However, when the clock stuck midnight, and Jon Brion began playing "Auld Lang Syne" up on a specially constructed stage on top of the sign's "L", ABC TV cut away to, of all places, revelers at Disneyland.
