This is my cat, I talk about her to my friends a lot online, but I've never had a video or photo of her because my apartment is really dark. I use low watt versions of already power saving bulbs, and only one per room, so there's rarely a time when she's in a well lit place.
Jezzie looks sweet and docile here, but she's actually a grumpy old codger. She's about 9 years old now. She's not spayed or declawed, she's had only one litter so far. Also she's Siberian, which means she's also hypoalergenic despite being long furred. I rescued her in Texas during a hurricane back in 2002 when she was just a kitten, barely weened off her mother's milk.
She must have cost her previous owner a fortune, siberians are expensive as heck, let alone ones that aren't spayed or neutered. After the hurricane, I went around everywhere asking if anybody was missing a siberian kitten, and either nobody spoke English or they said they weren't missing one.
Anyway, whoever had her before I rescued her couldn't have been taking very good care of her because she's scared to death of humans other than myself or my roommates. It takes her about 6 months just to stop hiding from a new roommate. This isn't normally a big deal but siberians are supposed to be extremely friendly and out going.
When she was a kitten, she was down right vicious toward everybody but me and my roommate, kimmie who I've had just slightly longer than Jezzie. Infact, she was vicious even to us, but no where near. She's mellowed out in recent years. Took long enough though. She's still grumpy as hell most of the time. Her nickname used to be Zuul, though, that's how bad she was.
@Stonehawk Also, you didn't help much by reciprocating her animosity... All you did by growling and hissing back was reinforce her negative behavior.

@Stonehawk well now you've seen what she can be like when she's being a sweetie, Stoney.

@flychomperfly I have met this cat in person. She is, or at least was at the time, horrifically mean. I have never heard something that small sound so incredibly angry. I still sometimes have nightmares. I haven't had a comfortable association with a cat ever since XD

@flychomperfly It's highly unlikely that she comes from feral cats, seeing as how when I have the alergen count in her saliva tested she comes back with the same reading as a pure bred Siberian would have. I'm pretty sure she's basically ptsd when it comes to other people. She is slowly getting to tolerate people other than me or the roommate I've had since before we rescued her from the hurricane as a kitten.

adorable! very sweet...very pretty, of course. is it possible she was feral? that would explain much of it. i once interacted with a colony of ferals and they were like that. maybe could also have been post-trauma.
makes me think think about my own baby. although, he was a wuss. he was also a grumpy guy too...but the only thing that would get him to react with claws or a swipe would be a young, feisty kitten that was jumping all over him (swipe! stop it...you're bothering me!). lol
