Samurai duel is only a few strike, they are very dedicated for their way, The Way of The Sword.
I adore Miyamoto Musashi, and Sasaki Kojiro is one archenemy with same level of skill and dedication.
Hats off for them!

@effilang according to the documentary, it's Musashi's tactic, he unnerved Kojiro by disrespecting him with an oar, to make him lost the "samurai" focus.

Why would Musashi go into battle using a bokken & not his sword??
-
@pwnorbepwned They would tie that rope to keep their kimono sleeves out of the way :)

A true duel, a fight between two masters, over in seconds, ended in a single strike. I've seen quite a few remakes of their battle, but this one seems very accurate, relatively (you know, toning down the Hollywood a little).
It is said Musashi was offered a tub of water to bathe in before departing for the island of Ganryu. Musashi believed himself most vulnerable in a bath, and so he never took one. Instead, he lifted the tub in his arms and drank from it before grabbing his things and leaving.
BTW, I saw Kurosawa's Sanjuro yesterday, and several characters were doing that thing with the rope around the shirt before going into battle like Musashi did epicly in the boat. What is that?

@pwnorbepwned loosened sleeves interfere, prevent, disturb, obstruct, interrupt and get in the way while fighting. They just tight them.
