Storm water from asphalted roads contributes 25 to 40% of waters which need to be managed during rains. Conventionally storm water drains have been designed to carry away the waters from a layout/neighbourhood/city . Reworking the storm water drain to hold water and percolate it into the bed of the drain itself or into recharge wells is another way of manging storm water. This not only takes care of the excess water flooding roads but also augments the groundwater.
Here is one such example from the layout called Utopia in Bangalore.
