That was Joe Chloewinski that he fought who had the riding gloves. It is immortalized in the movie "Gentleman Jim" starring Errol Flynn as Corbett and Ward Bond as John L. Sullivan

@g55coffia The most fascinating fighting footage I have ever seen is a film of Corbett sparring with Gene Tunney in 1925. It is well preserved, clear and at natural speed. It takes some searching but you can find it. I'm not sure, but I think it was made by Pathe films.

Jim was no doubt an important transitional figure in boxing. Still I personal have
difficulty naming him among the all time greatest mostly because he fought just
26 fights and officially only won about 64% of his fights. His greatest feat was
fighting Peter Jackson over 60 rounds. Is everybody on this site related to Jim or what? My uncle Paco from Mexico says my tia Juantia was his families maid.
