Try this if my way wont work: http://www.worldofminecraft.com/node/9216
Brand Knew Solution: Difficulty(Medium)
1. (Specific steps might be different for different versions of windows) Go to the Start Menu and enter in the search bar "system"
2. click on "System" in the results list
3. click on "Advanced system settings"
4. in the "System Properties" dialog box that opened make sure it is on the advanced tab
5. click "Environment Variables..."
6. in the "Environment Variables" dialog box Select the Path (or "PATH") variable in the System Variables list
7. Click "Edit..."
8. In the "Edit System Variable" dialog box go to the end of the "Variable value" text box and enter in (this may vary on your particular system) ";C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\bin"
9. Click Ok on all the dialog boxes and Close the system window
10. (Now for the fun part ) Go to the Start Menu and enter in the search bar "regedit"
11. Click on "regedit.exe" in the results list
12. Now, in "Registry Editor" (in the left pane) browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6.0_21" change "JavaHome" from "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6" (you might use a different version than 1.6.0_21, if so, change the path above accordingly)
13. change "RuntimeLib" from "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\client\jvm.dll" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\client\jvm.dll
14. the Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6.0_21\MSI" and change "INSTALLDIR" from "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\" (once again, you might use a different version than 1.6.0_21, if so, change the path above accordingly)
15. That's all! Now the sound should work! Have Fun!
REMEMBER to change all the previous settings back to their originals if you need to use 64-bit Java again.
NEW FIX!!!: THANKS TO HAMM123 off of the minecraft forums. this is somewhat like the previous one i have but maybe better
1. figure out if its caused by your resource file being empty
2. if resource file is empty then download the following http://www.mediafire.com/?7slxc86929lx3hs
and extract it
3. go to your minecraft folder
C:\Users\ (user) \AppData\Roaming\.minecraft for windows 7 and vista(i think)
(as far as xp im not sure but probably similiar)
4.replace the resource with the one you download in step 2
OR if your resource folder is there then
2. go to system 32 and look for OpenAL32.dll
3. if its not there then download this http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/ ... Items.aspx
4. run and install it
5. once you have OpenAL32.dll then replace it with the one in (make a backup or rename the old one
OLDOpenAL32.dll)
C:\Users\ (user) \AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\natives (again for windows 7 and maybe vista)
(for xp sorry i'm not sure)
OR if none of them worked then
2. patience (fore some people simply waiting fixed the problem estimated time ranges from a few minutes to acouple hous)
And the solution that Most likely never fails is:
1. Go to start
2. search or go to run and type %appdata%
3. DELETE THE .minecraft FOLDER!!! MUAHAHAHAH!!!!
4. Make sure it died.
5. start minecraft and login.
6. If it still don't work, download minecraft again from minecraft.net and repeat these steps!
Hey, It doesn't crash anymore but still no sounds :(
