  • In the TOURNEY"PICKLE' run down video situation above & all other run down situations such as that one I teach my catchers to come out running at the runner, in this particular one the runner was almost half way down the line, half way between bases is "NO MANS LAND FOR RUNNERS," just before the catchers too late tag he was standing back ,I feel he had enough time to step in, catch the ball move towards the runner make the catch & tag runner in front of the plate.

  • When tagger, say the short stop is within 10ft. from runner & runner is giggling back & forth, make an authentic fake taking ball in hand directly to glove, get him stopped so as to entice runner to come right to you " BANG," tag him out when runner has bitten on the fake throw, when giggling back & forth a runner will usually go the opposite direction of throw. tagger should be moving, closing gap on runner. This a heads up Major league play. Work on in & out rotation.

  • On all run downs I want no more than "2" throws with the out being made going back to the base runner came from no less than 20 ft. away from base, the gap needs to be closed on runner as much as distance will allow, make tag outs as far from base as possible, half way between bases is a picked off runners "NO MAN"S LAND," never let a runner giggle back & forth & get close enough to dive back to base.make tag out 10 ft. or so away from base.work on the rotation in & out.
