"A trip down an ornate rabbit hole." Take a tour guided (by a large bunny rabbit) through NYC artist Cynthia von Buhler's art studio in the Meatpacking district. This video was created for an Exit Art exhibition of homemade artist videos showcasing their studios. Von Buhler also housed her studio in a window at Exit Art during the course of this exhibition. She worked on art in the art complex window while people on the street watched.
"Music always helps, as does high speed, stop action or high-speed stop action, combinations of which are used to good effect by Joyce Pensato, Cynthia von Buhler, Ida Applebroog, Bruce Pearson and Lance Wakeling" - The New York Times, Roberta Smith
The surreal three-dimensional works blend Renaissance inspired portraiture and messianic figures with natural objects. Cynthia von Buhler's enigmatic paintings impart their meaning through symbol, design, and narrative. In von Buhler's art, butterflies, snakes, birds, and plants are set into cages, boxes, and peepholes to serve as metaphors for the human condition. The layered gouache paintings and their sculptural, performance, and audio accoutrements are at once poignant and mischievous. The Studio Visit is akin to a trip down an ornate rabbit hole.

Love the art! Is the rabbit-woman "Bunny Peculiar"? (in-joke) Viewers: see other works on the web by Cynthia Von Buhler for reference :) YouTube has too much censorship to allow full creative expression.
