If anything, Pinochet prevented a communist take-over and therefore the establishment of totalitarianism. More, Pinochet has not killed many people. Most authors agree that the number of those murdered by the regime has been about 3 thousand. I come from Bulgaria where the communists after 1944 killed about 40 thousand people.

I enjoy this series, but would like to point out that the author confuses dictatorship with totalitarianism. There has never been totalitarianism under Pinochet. Totalitarianism has a very specific meaning and applies to totalitarian states only such as USSR, North Korea, Nazi Germany. There has to be one-party system that is intertwined with the state, Secret police, that terrorizes and runs things from behind and other elements that were not present under Pinochet.

General Pinochet saved Chile from Communism and he had no choice. The general and the people were right in putting the Communist out! General Pinochet was a great man and leader, Chile economy is still receiving positive affects from his actions!!!

This guy is full of shit. Pinochet was a pussy-cat compared to the commies. He saved Chile and designed a very good economic system and then gave up power.
What's next? Some Middle East?
Will you do the events that lead to the Iranian revolution 1979, followed by the Persian war with Iraq (1980-1988), followed by Iraq invading Kuwait and the US invading Iraq in 1990?
It's embarrassing how little is known about those conflicts, since they are quite relevant.
It might also be interesting to get your take on the Palestinian conflict, Lybia, Jemen, Syriah, the Jasmin revolution in Egypt and the Afghan war.
Thanks a lot!

The economy did not do well under pinochet... real wages stagnated all the years of his rule... wealth became much more concentrated at the top... calories consumed by the poor dropped during his rule... real wages of the poor dropped too... the economy had a silver lining in that the rich were able to consume much more... luxury shops expanded... but the consumption of the poor did not expand... public education was placed into private hands... a huge cause of yearly strikes even to this day.
