  • Great Video. Very thorough I'm a service & repair plumber with 25+ yrs.

A co-worker installed an AO Smith - BTN 100 110 today and had a problem.

This unit has 2 burners and the one with the flame sensor was loose and wasn't getting good flame rectification.

Fixed that but have another problem.

I just uploaded a video with a burner problem

I've never seen this problem before and thought maybe you might have an opiion

Video is unlisted & only 30 sec

  • @krazedav

    Interesting....

    Try the following:

Insufficient secondary air.....Provide ventilation to heater.

Orifice too large.....Replace with correct orifice.

    Defective thermostat.....Replace with new thermostat.

Let me know how it works out!

    Geo.

  • THANK YOU!!! First hot shower in weeks! I was apprehensive to do this with the gas explosion/electrocution risk (if anyone were going to mess this up, it would be me), but this was super easy! I used a dollar bill, since I didn't have sandpaper on hand, and it worked!

Also, if all the intellivent lights are off, does that mean it's working fine?

  • @coquigretch

    Dollar Bill?

Something I probably would not have thought of......

And the student becomes the teacher!

    Nice...

    Thanks,

    Geo.

  • THANK YOU! :) My AO Smith was doing exactly what you describe so I followed your instructions and now I have heat and hot water again. Now I feel like I can fix anything LOL Thank you I would have never got this job done without your step by step vid.

  • Great advice, Thanks for this video.

  • Thanks dude you were spot on!!

  • do i need to drain the tank?

  • I just had a customer that has a A O Smith GPS-75 Promax Power vent. The blower was bad and I replaced it. Now the flame is getting to much air from the cover plate area and the flame is being blown out and away from the flame sensor. When the unit does light; flame is weak. I tried to vaccum the inside of the burner area and the outside under the water heater. I can't find instructions from A O Smith on proper way to clean air intake. Any ideas?

  • @geo

Went through the process and cleaned the Flame sensor. Put everything back together and the WH still cycles 3 times and shuts off with the 3 lights signifying system lock out. Have you heard this and what steps people have taken at this point? Any help is appreciated.

    Rob

  • Going to try this tomorrow night. My AO cycles just as you said and then show me the lock out code. After its clean and reinstalled, do I need to follow the reset instructions or should it boot right up as normal once I turn the blower back on?

    Thanks

  • This Video is Extremely good. I have AO Smith Water Heater. I had igniter problem. I could able to fix it.

  • Thank you so much for the video!!! Our home has this in our laundry room, and despite attempts at keeping it clean and dust free, this problem has occurred like clockwork every 8 months since building in 2008. Each time it has cost us 90$ for the service man to come and use a tiny bit of steel wool, for under ten minutes, and back it works again for another 8 months. Supposed to be an awesome water heater, and you just made it such. I can also hopefully extend the life of it! Bless you!
