The last good night-time thunderstorm in this area. Part 1 shows the lightning from two cells approaching from the south, with increasingly frequent and close lightning.

Video taken from approx. 9 p.m, July 26th 2006, in the New Forest, Hampshire

The thunder was very powerful that night, and I've not heard any quite the same before or since. It was probably to do with the high cloudbase and humidity at the time.

ps - excuse the kids etc, not much you can do about that in town :)

  • I think that lightning strike on 3:32 sent all those kids back indoors. Looked a bit too close for comfort that did!

  • This is a classic 'Spanish Plume' thunderstorm if ever I've seen one. I live in Kent along from Hampshire, and we get these every year also - cannot beat them, especially when it's uncomfortably hot and humid and you need that little bit of refreshing :D

  • Nothing says summer better than a severe Thunderstorm ! I LOVE Thunderstorms, I know it may sound strange but they energize me. For as long as I can remember I've always loved to watch them. Great video
