on DVD as a special two-disc edition, WARRIOR KING marks the highly anticipated return to the screen of Ong-Bak's Tony Jaa. And this time around the action is even more jaw dropping than in his first movie with WARRIOR KING boasting a return to the kind of mega-stunt that used to kick off every Bond movie in such rousing fashion in the days before computer effects stopped us all saying "Did you see that?" in the pub afterwards. The day of the Hollywood stuntman may be almost over but the Thais are stepping in again to give us a much-needed dose of reality.
WARRIOR KING tells the story of a young man named Kham (Tony Jaa) whose life is turned upside down when an international mafia syndicate, based in Australia, captures his two beloved elephants and smuggles them thousands of miles away to Sydney. The two elephants are far more than mere animals to Kham and his father. They are part of the family and were being prepared to be presented as a token of devotion to his Majesty the King of Thailand. The only way Kham can possibly save the animals is by venturing into a foreign land for the first time in his life.
Taking on a mafia group to rescue two elephants from a foreign country presents a huge challenge, even for a martial arts master like Kham. Despite the help of Sergeant Mark (Phetthai Wongkhamlao), a Thai police Sergeant based in Australia, and Pla (Bongkod Kongmalai), a Thai girl forced into modern day slavery, the going gets tough. They must take on the ruthless gang of Madame Rose (Jin Xing), whose henchmen include Johnny (Tri Nguyen), a Vietnamese thief and martial arts expert, and the hulking T.K. (Nathan B Jones).
As with Ong Bak, the mantra for WARRIOR KING's countless action set-pieces -- which include an amazing four-minute fight sequence shot in one take! -- is very much "real people doing real things" without wires, camera trickery, computers or stunt doubles.
The two disc WARRIOR KING (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (£19.99) by Premier Asia on 30th October 2006.
