Hot Creek is a unique geologic aquifer where a freshwater stream mixes with geothermal water. This mix is a great spot to soak your sore muscles after a day of climbing in the Sierra. In June, 2006 due to increased activity the USGS and USFS decided to close the creek to swimming. The activity has subsided yet still closed for swimming. Hundreds of thousands of visitors had enjoyed the waters at Hot Creek over the last 40 years with very few incidents. Now, very few people even walk down to view the creek knowing they can't enjoy a good hot soak.... Contact the USFS Mammoth Ranger District for more information.
