Waste of taxpayers money! Cannabis is not a toxic substance meaning it is not capable of being physically addictive or causing a fatal over dose. It does NOT kill brain cells or cause a person to become retarded unlike alcohol which actually kills synapses in the brain causing the person to dumb down over time. Cannabis is one of the most fibrous plants in the world producing large amounts of cellulose.

in making weed illigal you turn people to other harsher drugs and you wonder why new zealand has got more violent kids walking around with knives and things murders increasing
as we all and will continue to go on and on and on about p,methainethetamine and cronik that new crap that is far more dangerous than weed as some of it contains drugs
yet we ban a drug that makes people to lazy to kill people and doesnt kill the user or harm them as much as alcohol would
its so stupid

Some of the other negative effects stated such as killing motivation and brain cells are downright wrong. Use your brain, guys, and do a bit of research before accusing this herb of such things. Something the "pathetic pot heads" have obviously done. Ironic huh.
-
Wow, it really saddens me to see comments like "bunch of losers" "stupid pot heads" and the like.
I hate how New Zealand has such a widespread binge drinking problem, but it is so ingrained in our culture that a bit of wild drunk partying is generally accepted and just joked about. It's a disgrace. Grow up guys. Many of the problems of this herb stated by commenters are a product of it's prohibition: Crime to pay for drug money, gang affiliations, gateway theory, selling to kids.

@thedoyla THC is a poison, although much milder than ethyl alcohol.
it is also understood that there may be links to mental function problems, for instance, increased risk of suicide and schizophrenia in users smoking 5 or more doses a day.
it is understood that this research is in the early stages and time is needed with more test subjects to accurately profile its long term effects.
but as science stands at present there are possible risks involved in the consumption of THC.
-
@CarrieRulesTheBlock exactly... thats why i'm in favour of stricter drink drive laws and i am very anti smoking. both my dad and grandad died from smoking related cancers at a young age. i also think alcohol should be more regulated and unavailable to under 21's.
yes THC is beneficial, in tablet form. although smoking it is very harmful, 4-8 times more carcenogenic than tobacco and the beneficial effects are lessened enormously if smoked.
so i stand by my comments.

@CarrieRulesTheBlock tell the 7500 people a year who died my argument is flawed......

You Norml muppets are living proof that dope is bad for you. Life in NZ must be pretty damn good if dope is all you are concerned about. Good work Dunedin Police!

Living proof that dope is bad for us? How is that? Most of us are either full-time employed or university students. If you can judge our entire personality from a 6 minute video... Well, that's quite a skill!
Besides, when did we say that we didn't care about anything else? Most of us are involved in other political and/or voluntary organisations.
What do -you- do?

If someone attached this group with a baseball bat, they would expect police to help. And myself and my circle of friends expect the police to act on this minority breaking the law just like any other criminal.
Pround2beNZmade 3 years ago
Yes, but I think you're failing to consider than attacking someone with a baseball bat has a direct and obvious victim (i.e. The person who just got injured); however, when it comes to smoking pot, where it the victim? If I smoke a joint, is anyone else worse off?
It's not illegal because it's harmful, it's not legal because it's dangerous. It's illegal for sinister and unjust reasons.
