Le violoncelle "the King" d'Andrea Amati construit autour de 1570 pour Charles IX ( http://www.usd.edu/smm/Cellos/Amati/Amaticello.html ) a été recoupé dans le sens de la longueur et de la largeur. Son contour original nous est maintenant connu grâce aux recherches de François Denis et Roland Houël...
La reconstitution de l'instrument dans ses proportions originales, construite par Roland Houël est la propriété de la Fondation Orpheon.

The cello "the king" made by Andrea Amati fo Charles IX c. 1570 ( http://www.usd.edu/smm/Cellos/Amati/Amaticello.html ) had been reduced in size. Its original outline is now known to us thanks to the researches of François Denis and Roland Houël...
The reconstitution of the instrument in its original proportions, made by Roland Houël, is the property of the Orpheon Foundation.

  • Oui, beaucoup d'instruments ont été massacrés au XIXème s. Mais certains indices laissent à penser que celui-là a été recoupé dès le 18ème siècle. D'ailleurs, à cette époque, les grands violoncelles ne convenaient déjà plus à l'exécution du répertoire (suites de Bach par exemple)... Il ne reste malheureusement plus un seul violoncelle d'Andrea Amati ou des frères Amati qui n'ai été recoupé :'(

  • @KarlAmade Yeah, they really were stupid asses weren't they. All they had to do is plug up the top scroll peg holes, replace the fingerboard, bridge and tail piece. No one then would have realized it was ever a 5 string cello. Oh well then.
