Successful trainers know that motivation is the key to successful dog training. The economics of dog training is a key concept.

No motivation, no training.

You will learn the principles used by professional animal trainers to efficiently build any behavior you can think of to any degree of difficulty you can imagine.

Jean Donaldson is the award-winning author of Oh Behave! Dogs from Pavlov to Premack to Pinker; The Culture Clash - A revolutionary new way of understanding the relationship between humans and domestic dogs; MINE! A Guide to Resource Guarding in Dogs; FIGHT! A Guide to Dog-Dog Aggression. Jean founded the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, which has gained the reputation as the Harvard for dog trainers and behavior counselors. She has lectured to dog trainers in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia and Japan. Her books have been translated into six languages.

  • @jimbob0592: Well, that would be because dogs are not pack animals, they are solitary scavengers who may form temporary associations with other dogs. It is not dismissed out of spite, but because it has been disproved by science, the most famous study being published in "Dog: A New Understanding..." by Coppinger & Coppinger.

Keep an open mind, yes. But let's stick to facts also.

  • What a joke. Beyond motivating agents qualify the type of influence being established between dogs and owners. Reprobates, such as Donaldson, exploit learning theory and package dominance up to rip off dog owners. When dogs are medicated and given up on it certainly has nothing to do with her lame ideas.

  • What is your opinion on all breeds as far as tricks and behaviors, etc;?

  • I am concerned that Jean Donaldson like many other very well educated and knowledgeable behaviorists dismiss "Pack theory" all to readily out of spite for Cesar Milan's uneducated rise to stardom. I in no way imply that what is being preached by Jean should be dismissed, but what the public should know is that a good healthy relationship with a canine is not obtained with just positive reinforcement or assertiveness it is a combination of both techniques and others as needed. Keep your mind open

  • thanks for the pet uploads - I love your taste

  • How come the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers was shut down? It's a real shame... this school was known as the "Harvard for dog trainers" but it no longer exist. Who will take a certificate seriously from a school that shut down? I planned on attending there eventually, so I was sad to see it no longer exists.
