Vashon Island Food Bank has an acre of farm where their volunteers have been growing fresh food for those in need. All spring and summer they've been working the land, harvesting thousands of pounds of fresh food for the Vashon Food Bank as well as providing to the White Center Food Bank, too. It's an amazing pilot program that is changing the face and nutritional content of what a Food Bank does and provides! During this month of October 2010, all our Day of the Dead artwork on sale at Cafe Luna Vashon is 100% going to benefit this innovative program and more at the Vashon Food Bank. Please go see the show at Cafe Luna. Buy the art! It is all handmade, limited edition, many pieces numbered and signed by the artists. And 100% of your purchase goes back to the Food Bank!! None of the artists, and not even the Cafe, are taking a cut of the sales. Thanks much!
@inremembranceofruth While I don't think every food bank is doing this, I so encourage you to check out your local food bank program and see if they have some think like this. If they don't, ask to attend one of their upcoming board meetings and present this video...put them in touch with the Vashon Food Bank Director in WA state to learn how they can do it. The Vashon proj started SMALL - garden just outside the bank - grew into what you see here. Thanks for watching!

This is a stunning array of beautiful produce for the food bank - so that all may have access to the healthiest of food. As someone noted, food - and especially whole nourishing food - is NOT a commodity! We-the-people are beginning to make this apparent to those entities that think otherwise. How I would love to be a part of this endeavor...
