The Darien is in both Panama and Colombia. Land of the Indigenous. A UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Colombia side doesn't get much attention because it is mostly wetlands. The Panama side is more populated but the indigenous travel both sides freely. I think it is more populated on the Panama side because Panama fiercely protects its indigenous peoples whereas Colombia does not.
Also, the region is the beginning of the Andes mountain range.
