  • isnt this called Aquaponics?

  • I do not use the pond water in the winter I use compost tea as the pond water is far to cold. Currently I grow 14 different types of greens.

The local restaurants that buy my greens are very happy, normally they pay $9 to $12 per pound for similar greens that are not as fresh and definitely not organic one restaurant has photos on the wall of my system with a brief explanation of where the salad came from.

  • This is definitely the way forward. I myself am a Marine Biology Phd from the United Kingdom. WE, and by we i mean all of mankind as a collective, have to realise we absolutely CANNOT continue to take take take from the Ocean. For example, One of the specific issues for us here in the UK is the ever wasteful plunder of deep sea cod stocks. People need to be made aware that many of our favourite fish species, Cod for example, may be slow growing/maturing. We do not have an INFINITE AMOUNT.

  • I applaud any nation that is working to improve their aquaculture, with a view to best practice, quality and efficiency. The UK and USA are just TWO of the nations looking at and investing seriously in this form of rearing/growing and harvesting edible seafood, in all its guises, HOWEVER, we need to put pressure on those developed nations that are NOT following suit. Just my two Pence/Cents worth. Sustainability is key, not just for us, but for the Oceans we insist on plundering. EXCELLENT video

  • Good video. I would like to see more on how to make the set up work for so little money.

  • @jannonymous Negative. Even though, during the time of documentation this system was void of all life, it was still mentioned having Tallapia. If it were created just for plant life it would be an aquaponics system, but due to the inclusion of animal life it then becomes acuaculture. This type of system is very self sufficient and relatively easy to set up and maintain. My family and I are creating an aquaculture system similar to the Garden Pool (google/youtube it).

  • @jannonymous "Aquaponics (pronounced: /ˈækwəˈpɒnɨks/) is a sustainable food production system that combines a traditional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment." from wikipedia...

  • do a vid when you are growing stuff in the warm months

  • Why not use the water to feed a hydroponic system, then you would have veggies to go with you're fish.

I started doing something similar with my koi pond (we don't eat the fish) 20 years back I now have a greenhouse that I grow all my familys vegtables over the summer we freeze more than enough for the whole winter.

The best part is that I can grow 50 lbs of greens per day all year which I sell for $5 per pound thats $81000 net per year from salad. Clients? I have a waiting list

  • @Olsonite21 whats so funny about that?
