You say that the defenses got exposed, and I agree, but the head coach is not in charge of the defense, the defensive coordinator is. So no, I am not making excuses. The facts are there that Tressel does not control the defense which got exploited.
The problem wasn't primarily the gameplan, it was failure to make adjustments at half.

Well, considering he has 5 National Championships, 4 in DivI-AA, which employs a playoff system, and a DivI-A championship.
Jim Heacock is a mediocre defensive coordinator, at best...he's one of the key reasons for the loses.
