This is a video I made describing how to jump start a dead 2005 Toyota Prius. I went on vacation for almost 2 weeks, and then it did not start. The 12 volt mini battery did not power up the car. I apologize for the shaky camera work, as I was the camera person and the jumper. Thanks!

  • Without knowing the make or age of your car, or the type, I would say a week if the battery was really bad and yours is worn down, to a month maybe, maybe longer, I don't have any kind of science degree,

  • I don't like it either... However, my 18v mini battery in the back, which starts the ignition process has been worn down over 6 years of use (and using it to listen to music and leaving the lights on overnight), but I replaced it recently, and has been a lot better about starting after a holiday. It is also not the traction battery (main hybrid battery) that fails, it is the little battery in the back. I imagine that you can disconnect the battery.

  • he talks like such a loner

  • @5bananas1

let's hear you talk...This was a video I did on one take without script or anything, I didn't plan on posting it but there weren't any that I saw that were helpful...

  • -Matt, yes this is true... I love the Prius as a vehicle, I have owned/driven many cars, and this is one of my favorites. However, I would have like Toyota to somehow lessen this problem!

  • Hey no problem! The video is a bit long, but this is the first time I did it, I am jump it now in like 4 minutes! Good luck to you!

  • Wtf are u taping cleaning your floor just show the damn car and get it done

  • How long can a hybrid SUV sit in 30 degree weather before dying.

  • That is about the most ridiculous situation I've seen on a car. Are you saying that if you simply don't run your engine, for 2 weeks, that your battery fails NORMALLY? Ridiculous.

Question, if you kept your engine-battery connected to something like a "Battery Tender" (low amperage engine battery charger), would that prevent this from happening?

    Thank you

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Hey, get this, I have been on restriction for the past two weeks from a surgery and yesterday I had to go to the post office and my Taurus that has been sitting for two weeks started right up! :-)
