1967 California Hit makers, the Merry-Go-Round from the remains of The Palace Guard should have been a top ten hit.

  • Emit's singing sound more than a little like Arthur Lee's -of Love. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Also, this song sounds like some of Love's ballads- or maybe the other way around.

The Merry-Go-Round and Love were both LA bands, weren't they? Does anyone out there know if they crossed paths? Anyway, they both seemed, at least on the ballad and medium tempos songs, to have a similar sensibility.

  • Aside from a few cuts on Forever Changes, I can't see Love doing something this lush.

  • Who was that at 0:28?

  • To be honest I cannot find her profile on flickr any more. I just searched lovely woman and there she was.

  • Emit has turned gay - guess that's why he wrote this kind of lovely song with weird lyrics.

  • Hadn't heard that??!! Last I had heard he was with a stunning woman.

  • @garageband66 i agree. sounds more like the left banke to me.

  • I can't stop playing this. It's the chord changes that remind me of Love. I wonder if Emitt penned this all by himself. He should write a book on his experiences. I'd buy it.

  • anybody hear Nirvana's About a Girl (MTV Unplugged version) in this song?

  • superb

  • I love this band, then and now! Some friends made fun of me because it wasn't "drug" music.

  • Growing up in the Los Angeles area, in the 60's, I remember this song becoming very popular on local radio stations KRLA/AM and KHJ/AM, sometime in 1967 ~ I believe. This and "Live" are the only 2 songs I can even remember from The Merry Go Round.

  • the most beautiful song

  • I can sure hear the similarities of Love and MGR now that you mention it. Both groups are very high on my ipod chart! I can hear Arthur Lee of Love singing "Always See Your Face" which is a beautiful song and easily compare it to MGR--in fact I'd like to hear MGR do their version of Alway See Your Face. So I agree with written 12....Jeff

  • What an amazing talent. Emitt Rhodes should be a household name.

  • The Babe Montage is incredibly mystical, perhaps fantasy but aesthetically pleasing and several accolades to it's creator......Bravo!
