This is the boot time with all of the drivers and software I use on the laptop.
The fast boot time is achieved thanks to Microsoft Bootvis, Auslogics BoostSpeed, and killing some unnecessary services.
I do not use antivirus software, because 99% of the time it's a bigger pain in the ass than the occasional trojan or worm.
I will install something like AVG once in a while to see if there is anything suspicious.
For the most part reading trough the comments before downloading a torrent is sufficient protection.

OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Pentium M 1.4GHz
GPU: Mobility Radeon 9000 32MB 64Bit
RAM: 2x256MB PC2100 DDR

Sorry for the bad sound quality, the video is recorded with my digital camera :(
The song playing is Vangelis - Alpha

  • What is that white line on your screen?

  • @eroettger a fluorescent lamp together with it's mount fell on top of the laptop while it was opened.

It broke a big piece of plastic from the bezel and peeled the polarizing coating, that's why you only see the back light there. Oddly enough it didn't damage any pixels, if you look at it with polarizing sunglasses it's still working, I didn't realize LCD displays can be hard to kill.

  • I have the same laptop, boot up time is a little faster than yours, I though mine was slow.

  • i have a dell inspiron D800, that keep goin to no bootable devices once i turn the power. Can you help me.

  • I wish my D 600 booted up that fast.

  • @KantosK1

512MB is a huge limitation with Windows 7 from my experience, for a a short period at my university some of the computers had only 512MB and they upgraded the OS from XP to 7, and it was terrible until they added another 512MB, btw when it came out they installed Vista only on the newer ones, they didn't even try it on the older PCs :)

I sold the D600 though, as for netbooks I`ll probbably buy an AMD Brazos or Lynx based one some time in the future.

  • @NikiDaDude 512mb IS enough..running that amount on both my d600 and d610 with Windows 7. Don't expect much photoshopping speed, but basic stuff, browsing, pictures, scanning, etc. works fine and quick. Hell, it was faster than my asus netbook. Videos run smoother on the latitudes than on the netbook.

  • @98kitt

which RAM kit do you have in yours?

  • @98kitt I have a 2.4GHz X2 too, it runs pretty well with windows 7.

What drivers did you use for the laptop video chip? I only found some modified vista drivers, the aero performance rating went from 1 to 1.9, but my external display functionality doesn't work as it should.

I`ll go back to XP for sure, maybe for my next laptop.

  • @98kitt

    im using 160gb also

but ram is still at 512mb´s, and its starting to show

im not sure which ram i should buy

does any PC2700, 200 pin, DDR gap on the side fit? any brand?
