California First Lady Maria Shriver and Food Network star Guy Fieri are encouraging families to share a meal together at one of the hundreds of locations participating in the event. Restaurants across the state will offer free kids meals with the purchase of an adult entrée from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 23. Studies have shown that children who grow up in homes that eat dinner together are less likely to join gangs or abuse drugs and alcohol.
